Clay Caldwell, Attorney
CLAY CALDWELL - John Clayton “Clay” Caldwell brings extensive courtroom experience and a thoughtful, client focused approach to his family law practice. Clay began his legal career at a family law firm in Angleton, Texas, where he developed a strong foundation in divorce, child custody, and marital property matters. He later joined the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office, serving for 11 years as a felony prosecutor. During that time, he tried more than 60 cases to jury verdict, handling serious and complex matters including murder, aggravated assault, sexual assault, felony drug offenses, and driving while intoxicated cases.
He achieved a jury trial success rate of over 95 percent, earning a reputation for thorough preparation and effective courtroom advocacy.
After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Clay opened his own criminal defense firm before returning to family law in private practice. He joined a family law firm in Pearland, Texas, where he served as a senior partner, representing clients in complex divorce cases, high conflict custody disputes, and contested property division matters. His combined experience allows him to anticipate litigation challenges while helping clients understand each step of the process.
Clay earned his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2004, where he focused on criminal law, criminal procedure, juvenile law, and marital property. He received the American Jurisprudence Award for the highest grades in Criminal Procedure and Marital Property and has returned to his alma mater as a guest lecturer on effective jury selection.
He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, where he served as Student Body President.
Clay is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
